Inmates may be behind bars – but that doesn’t mean they can’t make a difference. Started informally in 2003, the Sustainability in Prisons Project (SPP) is on a mission to bring science and nature into prisons. By 2015, every prison in Washington State had implemented sustainable operations programs in waste sorting, composting, recycling, gardening, water and energy conservation, green purchasing, and more.
